Condolence & Memory Journal

This is a shock; the last thing I thought I'd be hearing! Remember Warren and his mother Cora Since our days in Shepherd Park, NW DC . Just finished seeing him in a picture just recently of the elementary school class of 1967 . Although he was a year younger then I we were in the same Sunday school class and then as we got older He went into the Military He would always stop by and look us up in Boston when he was in port on his way to Amsterdam and other exciting ports of Call. Used to remember his infectious laugh and smile. Time goes so swiftly I can blink and remember it like it were yesterday.

I introduced myself to Van Hook as his new co-worker at Superior Court upon hearing his last name. I told him my maternal great grandmother was a Van Hook from Durham, NC. He told me his family was from there also. Later we realized that we shared the same birth dates. An unforgettable person! May he rest in peace.

I met Warren as an attorney practicing in the District of Columbia Superior Court. He had a quiet, professional and kind demeanor to all who appeared in his courtroom. Later, we became friends when we were both employed at the courthouse. In addition, I would see Warren at social functions involving one of my wife's relatives. We did a lot of reminiscing on these occasions. I will miss him and my condolences go out to his family.

As a DC Superior Court law clerk on a calendar where Mr. Van Hook served as courtroom clerk, I learned so much from him the year we worked together - not only about courtroom procedure, but about professionalism, collegiality, and human decency. Sending my support to the Van Hook family.

I am one of many lawyers practicing in the D.C. Superior Court that just adored Mr. Vanhook. Professionally, he was the best . . . the guy just knew how to get things done and always showed great respect to every single person who walked through the door. But more important, Mr. Vanhook was such a kind, decent, friendly gentleman who always remained pleasant no matter what else was going on. He was not a loud guy, but his mere presence was enormous.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. I am so sorry for your loss.

The entire defense bar respected Warren. He was a calm and dignified presence in an often chaotic courthouse. In the 30 years I knew him, I don't think I ever heard him say anything negative. My thoughts are with his family.

Mr. Van Hook was unflappable; no matter what tensions occurred in the courtroom, Warren took everything in stride. As a senior Deputy Courtroom Clerk, not only was Warren always courteous; he also was exceedingly efficient and helpful.
