Mr. Charles Corwin "Win" Rice departed this life peacefully on Monday, August 7th, 2017 in Montgomery Village, Maryland at the age of 59. Charles was born on July 28th, 1958 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington.

Charles is survived by his mother, Mildred D. Rice of Laurel, Maryland, his sister, Carol F. Rice of Silver Spring, Maryland, and his sister, Daphney D. (Rice) Waggoner (William) of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Charles was also the beloved Uncle of Amanda & Ava Waggoner, his devoted nieces.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles Clinton Rice, formerly of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Charles graduated from Laurel Senior High School in 1976. He continued his studies and received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1982. Charles was employed with The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Goddard Space Flight Center, in Greenbelt, Maryland from 1982 through 1995. During his time at Goddard Space Flight Center, Charles travelled extensively to California, Chile and Peru.

Like all of us, Charles faced his own struggles and challenges in life. It was during a particularly difficult time that he placed his faith and confidence in Jesus Christ. His conversion to Christianity was followed by his baptism and a new sense of destiny and purpose.

Charles returned to the University of Maryland, College Park and received an Art Education degree in 2000. Upon his graduation in 2000, Charles began a brief, but rewarding, career in the Prince George’s County Schools as an Art and Graphic Design Teacher. He taught at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and Parkland High School prior to his illness in 2007.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, located at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland, with a reception to follow. The Reverend Dr. Van Battle will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charles’ life.
